Many of you are out of your Zaycon Foods chicken you ordered in February. I was just telling my husband that I was down to our last bag of frozen breasts. I couldn't be more excited about the timing of this sale. There was news that their next chicken deliveries were scheduled for the fall since prices seem to always go up in the summer. However, great news - Zaycon Foods is able to secure a great summer price.

Get Ready! The sale will open tomorrow at 5:00pm. The price for the Fresh Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts will be $1.64 per lb. Delivery dates will range from June 10 thru June 16th.

So, if you need more chicken before the fall, be sure to register and order your chicken starting tomorrow, June 3rd at 5pm. Final delivery dates, times, and places will be available on their website tomorrow.

Just as a side note: I will be ordering 40 lbs this time for my family of 6 since my 30 lbs last time barely lasted long enough. If you are new to this deal, you can read my previous post in February to get a better idea.

Um...apparently Papa Johns' validity date of 4/4 has been cut short. I was just told that the promo code has been disabled. Big frustrating bummer!! Hopefully many of you got the deal before it was gone. So typical in the couponing world.

Valid 3/17-4/4 because Papa John's reached 5000 fans on facebook. Valid in the Seattle area only.

Our friend Bryce just called with the "deal of the century" and claims he got word of it from a friend and claims it is also on slickdeals.com. I don't know how it works but I know it works.

I chose to add something to my cart so I bought a 20-oz Dasani Water and so my total came to $1.95. I chose cash and a pick up time of 6:30.

That's a really good price but if you have the "buy any sara lee soft and smooth bread get $1 off any milk free" coupon, you can snag some cheap or even free milk. I don't know if you could buy two loaves and use two coupons and only buy 1 gallon of $2 milk and get it free or not. It might be worth a try. If not, you can always by smaller size milk.

I ordered my coupons off ebay and they expire on 10/31 so I know I will get them in time. There were also coupons for $.55/1 but they were going for a lot more money making the bread deal almost the same price as if you didn't use coupons. I chose to forgo that deal.

Thanks to The Coupon Posse, they let me know about a great offer from Zaycon Foods located in Spokane. I was just talking to a neighbor about the cost of chicken and how there is rarely a sale. Then, this popped up on the couponing radar.

Zaycon Foods will be doing another spectacular Fall Chicken Event in late October and early November and they are offering 40 pound boxes of fresh, boneless Chicken Breast for just$1.48 per pound, that's just $59.20 per box! Each box contains four 10 pound bags of large Chicken Breasts that provide between 12 to 14 meals for a family of 6, depending on how often the family enjoys Chicken. (Unfortunately, I have to tack on $.06 per pound for paypal's fees so your total is actually $1.54 per pound. Consider it your gas fee, even though you are paying paypal, not me.)

Zaycon Foods Chickens are 100% natural, with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients. They come fresh from the farm so unlike the stores chicken breasts that are oft times frozen, thawed and then refrozen by the consumer, they are fresh…which means more tender and tastier chicken.

Saturday was a huge success with Bountiful Baskets and our fearless leader/site coordinator Michelle was seriously on a joy high. She loved every second.

I had such a great time volunteering. I showed up an hour early at 10:00am and helped distribute the goods. For being there an hour early, I got to pick 2 extra items, my choice: 2 large pumpkins. I had such a good time. Very enjoyable to participate.

Michelle got 43 of her 48 baskets filled on her first week! I have a feeling she will be sold out in no time. There is talk of a second sight opening up for the off weeks. The next time you can order is October 26th at 9am. Pick up is Saturday, October 30th.

A note from site coordinator Michelle:

If you signed up to participate in tomorrow's Bountiful Basket offering in Maple Valley there are a few last minute things you need to know. Since it is our first week here, though, please be patient with us as we're seeing what will work best for us in this community. Please note the following changes:

1) LOCATION: The location will NOT be the private residence listed on your confirmation. The temporary location for tomorrow, 10-16-10, is Lake Wilderness Park, located at 25040 224th Ave. SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038. Directions are included at the bottom of this post. We'll be there, rain or shine!

2) TIME: Pick-up time is 8:00-8:20 am. To volunteer, please arrive at 7am. I had spoken to a few of you who needed a later pick-up time. Since the location is no longer at my home, I don't have the same flexibility as I did before. If you cannot come within the pick-up window, please give your confirmation number to a friend and arrange for her to pick up your basket.

Also, please remember that you'll need to BYOB (bring your own bags), for carrying home your produce.

9X13 Crust:
	9 graham crackers (1 package), crushed
	5 Tablespoons butter, melted
	½ teaspoon cinnamon
Filling:
	5 - 8 oz. packages cream cheese
	2 cups sugar
	2 Tablespoons vanilla
	3 Tablespoons lemon juice
Combine crust ingredients and press into 9X13 pan. Mix filling together and pour into crust. Bake for 1 hour in 175 degree oven. Then turn oven off, open door (ajar) for 45 minutes more. For best results in thickness, refrigerate for a few hours before serving. Top with fruit of choice.

A Gold Mine

My printer has finally bit the dust and I was searching on craigslist for a "new" one when I happened upon a rare find.

To make a long story short, Maytag merged with Crossroads Appliance and then promptly went out of business. The great thing is that they have an entire (30,000 sq ft?) show room FULL of office/kitchen stuff just waiting for a good home. It's HUGE!

So my husband and I went down there today and our heads were spinning. It took us an entire 1 1 1/2 hours to see everything.

I walked away with an office chair for $20, a new printer that is identical to my old one for 1/2 of the price I paid 2 years ago and free plants. Andrew is selling everything at 40% off the lowest retail price he can find online. Give him a call, 206-354-3891, he is posting on Craiglist and I am not kidding, this place is stocked with AWESOME stuff. Just take a look at the pics.

This set of a children's table and four chairs is super high quality and a real steal at $30. I would have bought it in a second if my kids were smaller.

Keyboards galore.
Shelves.
Flat panel computer monitors.
Lots of printers and faxes.

"Bountiful Baskets" for Beginners

Welcome to another RAVE post. My dear friend Michelle has taken it upon herself to get all giddy about a produce cooperative called Bountiful Baskets. Many of you are familiar but for those who want a smokin’ good deal (and I know you do) hear me out. This cooperative pools their money and get great deals on healthy, delicious produce. The website is http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/.

The Skinny:

You make a $15.00 (+$1.50 transaction fee and $3.00 first time only basket fee) contribution online starting Tuesday, and you pick up two wonderful baskets full of fruits and veggies on Saturday morning at a very specific time at a specified location. It is that simple. You show up, you sign your name, you pick up your goods. You can volunteer sometimes to helping to unload and distribute the food but that is only once in awhile.

Sadly, the closest location to me here in Washington is Lynnwood so Michelle is going through the rigorous process of opening up her own location here in Maple Valley. She is SUPER (understatement) excited about this co-op and I couldn’t agree more. The more I have learned, the more I am in love. She will be opening very soon so feel free to ask her any questions you may have. Just comment on this post and I will pass along the info to her. Just be watching for the grand opening announcement.

She offered to pick up my share today in Lynwood and when she showed up at my door with 4 bags full of produce this morning, I was thrilled to death.

Here is what I got for my $19.50 (this time but from now on it will be $16.50.)

6 – nectarines

1 – honeydew melon

2 – cucumbers

5 lbs of potatoes

I would estimate this amount to be worth between $22-25 if everything was on sale at the exact same time. And we all know that happens….never. Not to mention that I do love buying from Foley’s Produce locally here but he is only open during the summer and this will be a great supplement for the winter months. Every time you order it will be a random variety of produce which has its benefits. You get to try new things you might not ordinarily buy at the store and all the produce is fresh and top quality. You can even order an organic basket for just $10 more.

This post is lovingly dedicated to my supportive husband who watched the kids so I could experience this most unbelievable event.

Don't say I didn't warn you because your mind is about to be blown. First a little background:

So...

I was browsing through some of my coupon blogs the other day, as I have been known to do on occasion and came across a post on Angela's blog The Coupon Project that got my heart pumping.

The consignment shop Kidz Kaboodle in Tacoma holds a quarter sale once a month where everything is just 25¢. They rent out the store next door, dump hefty bags full of clothes on tables and customers go at it. The clothes are all the rejects from their consignment store. Out of season, stained, missing buttons, worn or otherwise afflicted clothing. (Out of my loot, only 2 shirts were stained, the rest were in prime condition, some brand new with tags even.) What is also amazing is that they also put out strollers, swings, bouncers, toys, shoes, you name it....also only 25¢! You heard right.

So...

I couldn't pass up the idea of this event and so I left the kids with Rob early this morning and headed off to the sale. I heard it was important to be early so I was there at 8:45 and the doors didn't open until 10am.

So...

Here's my story.

I get there 1hr 15 minutes early and I am about 20 people back in line. I brought a magazine to pass the time and it wasn't all that bad. About 60 people were behind me in line so I thought I was in a good place. I had my garbage bag in hand and at 10am, the doors opened.

I have NEVER experienced anything like this in my life. As soon as I walked in the doors, I felt like I was in slow motion. It was like a swarm of locusts devouring everything in site. The toys were hit hard and fast. I paid no attention to those, quickly scanned over the clothes but no one was at the tables yet so I followed the commotion ahead of me. A separate room in the back corner of the store was in chaos. I thought something must be good if that was where everyone was going so I followed. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw next. There were women grabbing, shoving, throwing, fighting, biting, kicking, spitting, and yelling over strollers, bouncers, boppys, exersaucers, swings, bikes and rockers. Well, maybe they weren't biting or kicking but there was a whole lot of grabbing. It is a full on free for all because all items are just a quarter. I immediately eyed a changing table pad and snagged it for my church's mother's room and then I saw it in the corner of the room in a big pile of stuff...a pink baby bouncer. In slow motion...again, I went for it but was swatted down by a woman who spoke but one word in broken English..."mine!" I was completely floored and not to mention furious. What do you mean, "yours?" She held up an imaginary arm rope around that big pile of baby equipment.

Then I understood. This gal and her mother had been first in line, rushed in, pushed everything they could into a gigantic pile and stood in front of it claiming it all. I could not believe it.

I was not at all intimidated. Our heated conversation went a little something like this:

Greedy Girl: "Mine!"

Beautiful, Vivacious and Spunky Rachel: "Are you kidding me?"

Greedy Girl: "No, mine!" (Greedy Girl then pushes Rachel's delicate hands away as she reaches for it.)

BVSR: "You can't have all this, that is ridiculous. Can I just have the bouncer?"

Greedy Girl: "No, I here since 6am. Here take this..." (Greedy girl offers Rachel a crumby exersaucer.)

BVSR: "I don't need that. Fine, can I pay you for it?"

Greedy Girl: "No." (Greedy girl then pushes other people away as they reach for things.)

BVSR: "I am going to go get someone, this is unbelievable."

Greedy Girl: "Go ahead."

BVSR: "Can I please just have the stupid bouncer. I have a baby and would like to have it."

Greedy Girl: "Fine."

BVSR: "Fine!" (Rachel takes her prize as the crowd goes wild. Victory is hers!)

Personally, I think she finally gave in because I was bigger and stronger and gorgeous-er than she was. I watched other women try to grab things while they weren't looking but these woman were rudely persistent. In the end, I don't know how much they got away with or if anyone else was bold enough to fight for what they wanted but I didn't stick around to find out. I was physically shaken and wasn't sure if it was from the adrenaline or the fury. I grabbed my things and exited the room.

As soon as I got out, I headed over to the tables with piles of clothes. As I mentioned before, there was no one there but now, the room was packed. All of those 60 people had come in, given up hope of winning a stroller and gone right to the clothes. I wedged my way in politely, and settled into a spot at a table. There I stood for the next half an hour rooting through baby, kids and a few maternity clothes. The rest of the time was a fun experience chatting with fellow deal seekers and having a laugh over the equipment fiasco. Apparently, the same two women do that every month. For sure they are reselling the items so it was a little disappointing when so many pregnant moms there actuallyneeded those things.

By the time I stepped out of that back room, just 2 minutes or so later, it was a wasteland. Like I said, like locusts. I think people would take the counters if they weren't glued to the floors. The toys were gone, the shoes were gone, all that remained were the towers of clothes. Actually, come to think of it, the windows in the equipment room were missing too...hmmmm.

I then headed over to the clothes. Again, it was like locusts. A low hum filled the air and arms were flying as clothes were tossed and thrown. Every few minutes, men from the back would wheel out a cart full of hefty bags full of clothes and dump them on the tables. The women would reach in and yank clothes to root through. It was sheer madness I tell ya. Yes, it was a lot of grabbing but it was controlled, civilized grabbing. We were all in it for the same thing so we were polite yet aggressive. Grab, scan and stuff. That was the montra. I just picked up something, quickly decided if I needed it and then threw it in my bulging garbage bag. After about an hour, I decided I had had enough and found a little spot in the corner to double check my items.

I went through, pulled out what I decided I didn't want after all and kept the rest. The cashiers count up everything and then times it all by 25¢. I bought over 40 items of clothing, a lovely pink~~trophy~~ bouncer and a changing table pad. My total was just $12.02!!!!!!

This whole experience was a real education for me. Places like this out of your worst Black Friday nightmare actually exist. If I didn't have years of experience with yard sales, I would have never stood up to that gal. But I have a lot of confidence when it comes to getting the deals.

Just as Angela talked about in her post, I went through a wide range of emotions...panic, euphoria, excitement, fury, jealousy, exhaustion, anxiety and dumbfounded-ness (that's my favorite :).

I have already plotted with a neighbor to go at 5:30 next month so we can beat those greedy women. We are going to rush in and hoard it all then give it to those who need it based on the size of their bellies and number of children. Not really but it was a good thought.

With that said, would I do it again? Heck ya! I am a thrill seeker when it comes to bargain-hunting though so I am a little mental that way. I plan on making it a ritual if it works out with my husband's schedule.

If you are courageous enough to come, and live close to me, I would love to be your chauffeur and partner in crime. We'll have lots of fun accidentally elbowing people and fighting our way to the top of the clothes mountains. Next sale: September 24 (I hear that this was by far the worst one they had ever seen since word has gotten out about the cheap equipment and it is also back to school clothes shopping time. One gal had been coming for three years and back then, it was just a couple of old grandmas buying stuff for their grandkids and they would help you look for things you needed. Oh how things have changed. That's what happens when word gets out. Dang it. Why can't people keep good things a secret? So, don't tell anyone, ok?)

All in all, I had a super-de-duper fun time. I am honestly flabbergasted but super pumped from it all. It was a real education on how desperate ~~people~~ we all are when it comes to saving money.

Here are the BVSR's Must Know Tips:

1. Leave your kids at home!

2. Bring a sturdy bag such as a collapsable hamper, a laundry basket or at least a black hefty bag. Do not bring your standard white garbage bag. See evidence.

3. Get there at least an hour early to have a shot at a wanted item. Have only one item in mind that you are looking for and when you see it, dive on it. There won't be time to look at any other big items.

4. Bring some kleenex. My nose got a little drippy with all the dust and flying fabric.

5. Bring a friend. That way you have someone to talk to while you wait. You can also split up the duties. One goes for the shoes, while the other dives on the stroller. Then you look for each others' clothes sizes at the tables.

6. Pay and then take large items out to the car first then come back in for the clothes.

7. Don't let your eyes wander and look at what stuff you didn't get. It is too hard to swallow. Just keep telling yourself that you got the best things there and don't let your mind wonder what you missed out on.

8. The actual consignment shop next door runs a huge tag sale that day as well. 5 different colored tags are 50%-75% off. I picked up a couple more very very expensive things after the quarter sale for 75¢-$1 each.

This sale is NOT for the timid. See you there!

This week at Foley's Produce Yakima Kandy Corn is 10/$1.00 and it is SweeeEEEET! I bought 10 on Saturday and we mowed through it like candy for dinner. Today I went back and bought 30 more to cook and put in the freezer.

I don't know how long this deal will last and if the corn will get less tasty so I suggest you get on over there and get some. The ears are kind of small but you can root through and get the biggest ones. Still for a dime each, it can't be beat.

Here is what I do with my corn:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add corn and return to boil. Boil for 11 minutes and then throw into a cold water bath. When cool enough to handle, use a angel food cake or bundt pan, placing the corn upright in the middle. Slice the kernals off letting the pan catch them for easy containment. I seriously have a huge weakness for those strips of corn all sweet and warm and....strippy?! Could eat those all day. I am actually really angry with the corn gods that corn isn't better for you. I go bananas for really good corn on the cob.

Scoop into bags and label with the date. Lay flat in freezer for sweet corn all winter long.

My favorite recipe to use with corn is Taco Soup! It doesn't look gourmet but it will blow your mind!

Taco Soup

1 lb hamburger

taco seasoning to taste

2 cans black beans (or whatever bean you like)

28 oz can crushed tomatoes

3 cups fresh corn (or canned in a pinch)

sour cream and shredded cheese for garnish

Brown beef and then add taco seasoning. Add rest of ingredients and simmer. Garnish with sour cream and cheese. Eat with tortilla chips.

This pot of soup can sit on the stove all day, waiting for my hungry hungry hippos in the cold winter months. Soooooo good!

Bounce It Up Review

As promised my good friends, I am letting you know about the newest business here in the Maple Valley area. Bounce It Up is a family owned inflatable playland located just south of Maple Valley about 2 miles before you get to Black Diamond.

Steve and Megan have opened their doors for business in this brand new facility and we would love to see them stay. Quite possibly some of the nicest business people you will meet, they really took care of everything for my son's birthday last Saturday.

Bounce It Up has a fully carpeted play area which is really nice for those stocking feet to grip. They have 5 large inflatables including an obstacle course, a giant dual slide, a jousting ring and this great little colorful one for the wee kids.

They are open for business everyday for certain drop in times and then allow 2 hour slots for birthday parties on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Visit their website here for all the hour and rate details.

For birthday parties, the rooms are already decorated, contain a fridge, freezer, several tables, banners on the walls and Megan even have balloons for the birthday child. Paper goods are provided and they will take care of the food and dessert if you want them to.

I was most impressed at Steve and Megan's hands-on approach. They poured water for all the kids constantly, took notes when my son opened his gifts so that we wouldn't have to and offered to scoop ice cream and cake. They really devoted all their time to make sure we were well taken care of. Even when all the kids were bouncing and sweaty, they had little cups and a pitcher of water for them to cool down. They have thought of everything!!

I warned you last week this would be awesome. I suggest you get your tail on over to Bimore in Enumclaw and rummage yourself silly at their Memorial Day Sidewalk Sale (it has been moved indoors so don't worry about the rain.)

I just spent 2.5 hours there this morning and had no shortage of things to look at.

I will break it down into a few of my favorite finds.

They sell banana boxes full of treasures for just $5. It is a "grab bag" and you never know what you are going to get including a chance to win money. In 4 of the boxes they hide gift certificates for $25-$100.

I ended up buying one and when I found out my full grocery cart totaled $35, I decided to grab another box and a $10 MP3 player for a birthday present to bring my total to $50. That way I could use my $10/$50 coupon to essentially pay just $5 more dollars for that 2nd grab bag and MP3 player combined. Pretty smart considering I won this:

I have never won before so I was pretty stoked. (Can I still say stoked in 2010?)

Various, high retail-priced lotions for 25¢.

Reese's PB hearts (which I LLLUUUUUVVV) for 10¢.

I use these on s'mores during the summer time.

All their shoes and clothes that are in the sidewalk sale area are just $1. They woman restocking said she had thousands of pairs of shoes just coming out at all times. I just wanted to follow her the rest of the day but I decided she would probably notice.

I bought 7 pair of shoes...all brand new with tags. Light-up Sketchers for Indy, Adidas running shoes for Olivia, and rain boots and Adidas flip-flops for Eden. It was a good day in the shoe department.

So $41 isn't bad considering $15 of that was an MP3 player and two banana boxes and $7 was shoes. And then I won a $25 gift card on top of that.

I know I have posted this strawberry deal three times but I really want you to think about this. This very well could be the last week these strawberries are at this price. I have decided that the strawberry u-pick season falls at a bad time this year and so I am buying in bulk now and freezing for the summer.

I understand that these are not sweet and fresh off the farm but this crop is actually really really nice for pre-packaged. I bought 2 flats today for just under $16 and they are all going in my freezer.

Hopefully you will get in on this great deal while it lasts. There is something very fulfilling about putting food in the freezer.

HOLY MOLY!! I failed to realize that these sales started today at 9:00am and I mistakingly visited the Kent, WA store at about 11:00. It was a nightmare. The lines stretched all the way back to the dairy dept to check out. I waited in line just to walk down isles and don't even get me started on the produce department. AAAAHHHHH. I recommend you go at an odd time of day-early morn, late evening. This wasn't even the store that was having the grand opening. It was mass hysteria. I will never do that again. I did however, get my deals!
